Penny the Polite Penguin

Meet Penny Penguin

Penny the penguin loved living on the snowy shore. She waddled across the ice, sliding on her belly and splashing in the water. Everyone liked Penny because she always remembered her manners.

Helping a Friend

Helping a Friend

One chilly morning, Penny saw her friend Finn carrying a big, slippery fish. Suddenly—plop!—the fish slipped right out of his flippers.

“Oh no!” gasped Finn. Penny hurried over, picked up the fish, and handed it back.

“Here you go, Finn,” she said kindly.

“Thank you, Penny,” said Finn with a smile. “You’re always so helpful.”

Thinking of Others

Thinking of Others

Later that day, Penny stood in line for hot chocolate. She wanted the one with peppermint marshmallows. Behind her was her friend Lila, shivering in the cold.

“You look chilly, Lila,” said Penny. “Why don’t you go first?”

Lila’s eyes lit up. “Really? Thank you, Penny! That was so thoughtful.”

Kindness Returned

Kindness Returned

That afternoon, while racing her sled down an icy hill, Penny tumbled over a bump. Crash! Her sled skidded far away.

“Oh dear,” sighed Penny.

Before she could even stand up, Finn and Lila rushed over. They brought her sled back and helped her to her feet.

“Here you go, Penny,” said Finn. “We’re helping you just like you helped us,” added Lila.

Moral of the Story

Penny felt warm inside, even in the freezing snow. She realized something important: “When we are polite and kind to others, they want to be polite and kind to us too.” That evening, Penny shared the lesson with her family.

“It’s just like the Bible says,” she told them.

“Do to others what you would have them do to you.” — Luke 6:31

And from then on, Penny waddled with joy,
knowing that good manners can warm even the coldest day.

Ending Prayer

Dear God,

Thank You for teaching me to be kind and polite.

Help me treat others the way I want to be treated.

Amen.
